Found an old bottle that had been used as a "Home Brew" bottle
by this older couple. The bottle has
Manhattan Bottling Co.
342 Manhattan Ave
Brooklyn, NY
in raised lettering on it.
Your family truly has lived the American Dream!
Congratulations!
Do you ship your soda to Indiana?
Best wishes,
Paul
I'll put it like this. I work for Starbucks. A
coworker of mine gave me a bottle of the Espresso
Coffee Soda. I can truly say that the drinks I
make and charge people for each day cannot compare.
I moved from New York to Georgia many years ago,
each time I return home I stock up on my favorite
Coffee soda, my brother also brings me some when
he visits, it is a great treat and I love it. Hope
it is available in Georgia soon. The South doesn't
know whats its missing, but I do!!
I lived on Neptune ave and 5th st. in the Coney
Island section of Brooklyn in the 50's I loved a
cold Manhatten Special on a hot summer day while
walking to Surf Ave. Hope to fine an outlet in
Reno, Nv.
When I went shopping with my Mom in the 50's on Arthur Ave
(we lived on Prospect Ave and E 187 St) if I was good she
would buy me a MANHATTAN SPECIAL from the guy in the
Market...Haven't had many since then. Glad I found this
website.
I finally found my love again, Manhattan Special!!
this is the best Soda i have ever had and the only
one that left an everlasting impression on me.. i
have dreams and memories about it..I remember going
to my great granmothers house in Little Italy NY and
she would have a refridgirator filled with them.. by
the time everyone left they would all be gone..
Truly a wonderful drink.. 🙂
I just had my 27th birthday in saturday and on
sunday i went back to NY to visit. I moved when
i was 9 and miss the Manhattan Special.
Everytime go back to visit i always go back to
the same corner store on the corner of Smith and
Union in brooklyn. I wish we had these by my
house in Pennslyvania. I love the drink and hope
to see it around for many generations to come.
It's a flavour that takes me back to so many memories!

Bst drink ever!!!!! Brooklyn Boy.
I love your coffee soda. I'm also a huge fan of absinthe. I never
could go for Sambuca, but a splash of absinthe in your espresso
soda is something very special. I wonder what a bit of grappa
might be like.
My family has been drinking Manhattan Special since before
my grandmother was born. Being from 5th Avenue in NYC,
we have an affinity for anything made well (with natural
flavors), made in NY, and being Italian, we always ended a
meal with a hot espresso. Manhattan Special was a way of
combining all of that in a ready made bottle. We would drink it
either ice cold from the fridge or warm from the case. Either
way it was, and still is, a refreshing and invigorating drink. My
first memory of drinking any kind of soda was of a Manhattan
Special when I was around 2 years old. Even my dog likes it!
We had a party at work last week to celbrate the
end of project We all love coffee- I saw the
Manhattan Specials in the grocery store and
brought them to the part- They were a hit
I'm from Pittsburgh and had never tried this great
stuff until the postal lady at my local post
office who is from Brklyn originally recommended I
try the Manhattan Special espresso soda
(aka...coffee pop for those of yinz from around
here) knowing I love espresso...wow...its
seriously incredible...I'm sooo happy because 2
Italian shops in my area carry it...its perfect
for summer, really cool, refreshing and great
taste and everything! wow...keep it up!! 'N keep
it comin' down to the Burgh!!
For three years after moving to South Carolina I
only got Manhattan Special on trips home. Love
the website and the ability to order all your
products. The Best!! I also love sporting the T
shirt.
Moved to Virginia 10 years ago, from New York.
Have been missing Manhattan Special since then. I
was very glad to find out you now take ordes on
line. Even my sons are happy. We all love the
soda. Keep doing what you do best!
Hi,
I've been a fan of your original Espresso Coffee
Soda since I was a kid, visiting my Grandmother
in South Ozone Park, Queens. Love it and keep up
the good work!
Best soda ever, its my morning wake up. Please don't change
anything!!!
I have had this great treat many times and I am
only able to get the little bottles here at a
small deli close to my house. I am on a mission
to find the bigger bottles now. I love this
stuff. Manhattan Special is the best.
TERRIFIC CUSTOMER SERVICE! I had the wrong
address for a friend I was sending a six-pack as
a thank you gift. Customer Service contacted me
to check the address; they even did research to
get the correct address! WHO DOES THAT THESE
DAYS? My friend, from Germany, who always serves
me fine coffee, LOVED THE STUFF! Thanks.

Growing up in the Morris Park section of the
Bronx, I drank Manhattan special for years and
years. Since moving to Albany, finding it is a
struggle (I am trying to get some places to carry
it!); but EVERY time I return back to the old
neighborhood I stock up and bring some home with
me. Absolutely the best!!

never knew this drink was out there. Who needs
Starbucks!!!! How did you make this stuff taste
so good. Call me if you need a spokes person.
I am brooklyn born and raised.. and practically

Growing up in Brooklyn, hanging out in the pool
room on court/butler st, drinking down an ice
cold Manhattan Special, oh the days of old. I
still drink it now going on 35 years now. I just
picked up a case of the 10oz bottles (I drink the
diet now lol). Still go to ferdindos for
Manhattan Special on tap...and panelles specials.
STILL THE BEST THING I EVER DRANK!
Love the flavor of the Manhattan Special.

Just found Manhattan Special Orange - Love It!
This is the most delicious beverage my tongue has
ever tasted. It was definitely handed down from on
high by the gods for mortal consumption. Thanks,
you guys!
Simply the most perfect food ever...especially the
diet version of Espresso Coffee Soda!! I'm hooked.
Manhattan special is my favorite soft drink. I grew up in area
of Brooklyn that produced this great drink. I have long since
moved to long island but I still keep a case of 10 ounce in my
house at all times. Everytime i drink it it takes me back to
many happy times in my life. I wish they would bring back the
old bottle that had the nicely dressed couple right on the
bottle. When you drank it the mans suit would turn from brown
to white.
Use to drink Mahattan Special when I was a teen
living in the Bronx.....35yrs ago. Finally
found it here in Pa. Took long enough. Now to
introduce it to my friends......
there was nothing like groing up in bklyn near
union street and going to ferdinando's for
panelles and rice balls and an ice cold
manhattan special.today they have it on tap and
it brings back memories from when i was a kid on
henry street between degraw and sackett
streets.my wife still has her business
there "the bike shop" and we go there as much as
possible.
A very special friend of mine sent me a case of
this special drink that I have not been able to
purchase for many years. Thank you my friend.
This drink brings back many fond memories from
my early days in Brooklyn, New York
growing up in brooklyn, manhattan special was a
staple at our house. glad they have never
changed, some things are better left untouched
and this is one of them.
I just got through talking with Maria Muldaur
about growingup in NYC and how we loved
Manhattan Special - so here I am sending link to
her via e-mail.
Nothing takes me back to my childhood in
Bensonhurst Brooklyn like an ice cold bottle of
Manhattan Special! Thank God I am able to get my
favorite drink at my local supermarket here in
North Jersey!
Nothing takes me back to New York and my
childhood like Manhattan Special. Lucky for me
I can find it here in South Florida. Just had a
bottle with some Italian Fish salad. Delicious!!
Just had it for the first time in Capra's Deli.
It's awesome!
Isn't it great to be Italian....all these
wonderful people from the old neighborhood...I
miss everything New York and I miss my Italian
roots and my Manhattan Special... which I still
cant find in Fayetteville Ga....but I will keep
trying.....Merry Christmas ! !
All I can say is WOW !
I am 48 years old and was turned on to Manhattan
Special Espresso Coffe Soda tonight-This is one
of those things in life you rarely run across and
you just know you Love it!
A friend brought some from Long Island..

Manhattan Special to find a Local Retailer.
Thank You Manhattan Special !
I MUST have more !
My 16 1/2 year old was introduced to Manhattan
Specials from my father who get's it from a
local grocery store in NJ.
After trying it last year, he insisted buying a
case so we could take some home....
Well, guess what he's getting for Christmas this
year??? 2 cases of Manhattan Special....I bet
this will be his favorite Christmas Gift!
Honestly....he'd rather have Manhattan Special
Soda than an XBOX game....what a kid! You can't
make this stuff up! Happy Holidays!
Hoping my cases of soda make it to SC in one
piece!!! I'm glad I found you online.

Im 47 years of age , I started drinking manhattan
specials when I was about 5 years old. My
grandmother used to make me a vanilla ice cream
soda using manhattan special, and I.ve been hooked
ever since. I still live in brooklyn, and not a
day goes by that I dont have a least 2 manhattans.
Thanks for this special treat, and thanks for the
memories'
Both my grandpatent's and parent's came from
East Harlem, New York.. I have been drinking
this since I am a little girl. I now buy them on
Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. This is truly one of
the greatest drinks around. There is nothing
like a Manhatan Special. I am so glad they are
still around I now give them to my kids.
Fondest memories of Brooklyn were eating
RiceBalls on Union Street and washing them down
with about 3 Manhattan Specials!! Many, many
years later, and many miles away from Red Hook,
I have perfected making the RiceBalls, but
DAMN...the Manhattan Specials cannot be
duplicated! And that's my Brooklyn story!
I am 28 years old and live on long island...I remember my
nonna giving me a small glass with my cannoli when I was
about 4 years old....I have been hooked ever since...the
espresso sode is the best soda hands down...especially if u
love coffee and espresso. Now when I visit nonna who still
lives in gravesend she always has them for me she's 86
walks down to the stores brings them home gold bless
her....she came from sicily and so food. And drink are very
important to us....I just wish it weren't so over priced where
I live 🙁 other then that its worth every penny I love love
love it
Since i was a little child, my family has always
been drinking this special espresso drink. From
the festivals to the family gatherings, we have
all enjoyed this drink. I can only say that i
hope you guys will always been around for
generations to come. Thank you for making such a
special soda and putting smiles on all our faces!
Grew up in Manhattan..Grand-Ma always had
Manhattan Special around the house (apartment).
I live in Texas now and have wondered if this
stuff still existed. WOW..was I ever pleased to
see the company still going strong and all these
people signing in! It's awesome (DO NOT like the
new lable though). Gonna order me some RIGHT
NOW!!! Keep on, keepin' on Paisans!
I was born and raised only a few blocks away on
Grand Street...Some of my fondest memories are
walking through the feast Of Mt Carmel a Sausage
& Pepers Sandwich in one have and a bottle of
Manhattan Special in the other. Every time I
drink a bottle it brings me back to those great
days in the Neighborhood. My wife jokes that it
is a part of our DNA now.
My father started drinking these when he came from
Italy back in 1947, He's still drinking them now
everyday. I'm proud to continue to keep drinking
these Soda's also, always a great refreshing taste!
Simply "The Best" Soda on the planet! The cherry
and Orange are my favorites and the others are all
very good also. Hard to find a few years ago but
getting better the last few years.
Keep up the good work!
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY...all I
can remember is always having Manhattan Special
Coffee Soda in our house. Now I moved to
Florida's west coast and am trying to find all
my NY favorites in food and drink.
I was very happy to find Manhattan Special at BevMo!
in Manhattan Beach, CA. It's one of the things I
miss about NYC. Gray's Papaya, John's Pizza in The
Village and Manhattan Special. Me Happy!
I lve in central Florida is there any place that
sells Manhattan Special sodas? Oh what memories!
I'm a New Yorker, born and raised. My mom would keep bottles of
diet Manhattan Special stacked in the basement for the weeks to
come, and once I started drinking coffee, I couldn't get enough of
it. However, I'm in college in Virginia by choosing, where I don't
think they have your unbelievable product in the local Walmart or
Kroger's. Please find a way to bring Manhattan Special down to Ol'
Dominion, or somewhere near Dubyuhnell.
Nothing beats the heat of a hot & humid day like a
Manhattan Special. Outstanding in an ice cream
float too. Keep up the tradition... you truly
produce classic beverage!
Ohio, that's all I need to say. The place without
knowing what pizza should be like. A place that
you will not find a Manhattan Special. Please,
please, please sell your product here!!! I always
have to ask someone coming back from the NY area
to bring a care package and make sure to include
the Manhattan Special.
Louis Deli by Pike's Place Market in Seattle
sells it, so for those Washingtoninas, there is
now at least one place to find it! My husband
had been looking for the manhattan Special since
1991! Finally found out a couple weeks ago.
put a little ice and milk in it and you have the
best iced coffee - then just for fun, put it in
the blender for a coffee smootheee - yum
You have the most excellent write ups. From
California, I have quite enjoyed learning the
history of your family business. I will visit
when I go to NY.
Thank you.
i'm in agreement with brookly girl 7/28/10
post: would love no sugar, no splenda, no
nothing version.
Live in Williamsburg near the factory and fell in
love with your soda at first sip. I will say
that I would drink it a lot more often if you had
a version with no sugar in it. That's my
suggestion. Straight up, no sugar, no splenda,
no nothing - just espresso soda.
I live in South Florida and am lucky enough to
find your soda at the Penn Dutch Markets, but my
friend who moved to N. Carolina is desperate for a
place nearby her locale. Nothing can beat the
taste of your Expesso soda! We love it. I hope it
comes to N. Carolina soon!
I'm a Brooklyn girl. I have been missing
Manhattan Special for 22 years living in
Washington State, north of Seattle. There are
more "Espresso" stands out here than you can
could ever need; not to mention Starbuck's. They
make the latte's,The Breve's,The Mocha's, The
Italian Sodas & Granita's.....but not even one
has attempted even a cheap knockoff of the
original espresso soda Manhattan Special. I can
safely say that Washingtonians are
coffe"Maniacs". They are creative with a shot of
espresso, but I have yet to see "ANYONE" out here
drink a shot of espresso in a Demi-Tasse with a
twist of lemon rind and a hit of Anisette. They
really don't know what they are missing. I have
ordered that in very high end restaurants here &
the response is usually a dumbfounded
expression. In any case, the peeps out here
would go KEEERazy for the Manhattan Special. You
have a very "TREMENDOUS" untapped market out
here. You should get some sort of a deal going
with Costco or something! I would love to be
able to buy it whenever I wanted... Gosh, do I
miss it!!! So dang delicious!
I live across the street from your factory in
Brooklyn, and I love the smell of espresso when
you are brewing. It's like living in heaven.
My wife just went around the corner to Carmine's
to get us some baked ziti....I just went to the
fridge to get myself a bottle of Manhattan
Special. What is pasta without Manhattan
Special? Love the stuff.
I remember always having a bottle of Manhattan
Special every Friday night with friends and
family when I lived in New York. That had been
for most of my life. Now I am in Pennsylvania
and no more Manhattan Special.(sigh) I sure do
hope that it is sold somewhere near me so that I
can drink that wonderful potion once more!!!!!
The Pure Espresso Soda is delicious. I just
love it. Even the diet version is great.
Doesn't even taste like diet soda.
I just came back from Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati
OH where I bought a few of your espresso sodas.
I'm very sad that I didn't buy a case! Intriguing
and refreshing, it surprises my palate with every
sip. I'm currently awaiting my e-mail to see if
there's someplace closer to me that sells it so I
don't have to drive 5 hours to get more!
Recommended this Cleveland OH Cafe Dolce look
into adding your product. I had lived and
purchassed MS in NYC, NJ, RI. Its a most
refreshing drink. Even can add a dash of milk to
it.
Being from an Italian famiglia from da Bronx has
its privileges, one of which was Manhattan
Special! When I was a baby 36 years ago, I
preferred to suck on a bottle of Manhattan Special
over my baby bottle! Thank God the local deli
where I live now still carries it!
Manhattan Special, great taste but a bit to much sugar.
If you lower the sugar content, your customer base may rise even
higher!
Good Luck!
Peter
New York City
Manhattan Special just took my afternoons by
storm. Too hot for another coffee by then and its
perfectly refreshing. Its replaced my second cup
of the day. Now that I work in Brooklyn I'll have
to come buy a case at a time. Thank you Anne for
showing me the way of the Manhattan Special.

Rockville Centre, NY
Always happy to write something positive about my birthplace,
NYC!! I like it down here in N Aug., SC...but miss being able to go
to a shopping center with a deli, bagel store, pizza parlor and of
course not being able to get a Manhattan Special....anywhere!! The
folks down here don't know what they're missing!! I always pick
some up when back home or have one of the "kids" bring some
down.....depending on the cost, I'm going to order on-line.
Thankyou for making such a good product!!
I have been trying to figure out what to get my
husband (who has everything) for his birthday!!!
He is originally from the Bronx and had me pick
up a Manhattan Special when I was shopping in
NY... I had to search for them but I found them.
When I got home he was so excited he was like a
kid in a candy store... needless to say they did
not last. I just ordered some online... can't
wait to see his face when he opens his gift.
I am 52 years old and lived on Graham Ave.
Between Frost and Withers Streets. The first time
I tasted your soda was at "Angies Candy Store",
right down the block, corner of Withers and
Graham. That was around 1968. I have been hooked
ever since. I am so happy to have found your
website,, I recognise many of the names here from
the old Nabe. I have since retired from the
Police Department and live near Binghamton New
York. When friends or relatives call and say that
they are comming up for a visit,, I tell them,
Dont bother comming if you forget my soda. Great
product!!!
Love your Espresso Coffee Soda. Hate your
baseball team 🙂 Steve from Boston
Living in Florida 15 years from Coney
Island.Finally found Manhattan Special.
I'm stayin'
What can I say about my favorite drink that
hasnt already been said.So happy to be back in
the Bronx for the summer to taste the drink of
my childhood! My hubby ran out to get me a case
the day I got back.Having Manhattan special in
the house is like having a pot of gold,it should
be kept behind locked doors! So many memories of
going down to the pizzeria On Arthur Ave and
having a slice and a Manhattan Special! This is
more than just a drink its a flashflood of all
the wonderful memories and feelings of the days
that I cherish. My neighborhood might have
changed but this unique taste has not!Being a
fan of this drink is like being in a secret
society that only a privileged few know about.
Lucky us!
So far I haven't found a retailer here who
carries Manhattan Special, but thank you for
finally making it available on line! I can't
wait to recieve my shipment 🙂
I would LOVE to support Manhattan Special, but so
far no one in NH carries it. I've inquired at
Retailer Locator about nearby MA and ME. In the
meantime, I have to bring it "over the border",
Cannonball Run-style, from NJ. Would rather not
have to order online and pay the shipping. But
will if I have to... it's THAT good!
I grew up drinking it and when I went off to
collage l would take a trunk load of it in the
car. When l went off to Vietnam i was a carrier
pilot and was unable to get it. However once we
put into port for repairs and found some in the
black market {How's that) Well l paid $35.00 for
a six pack and was happy to pay it!
IMPORTANT UPDATE! MINNEAPOLIS, MN IMPORTANT UPDATE!
I was in Broder's Deli today for a couple of
slices and when I was leaving saw they have
Manhattan Special. They just got it maybe a week
ago. Support them! I don't know if anyone else is
selling it.
I'm relatively new to NYC (only been here a few
years) but within a couple of months of arriving
while meeting with a client (in Canarsie)I was
introduced to Manhattan Special. My client
said, "now that you're here in Brooklyn, you
gotta try one". I was hooked. Now my office is
in Greenpoint and I get my fix regularly from
Joe's Busy Corner on Driggs Ave. I'm enjoying
one right now! Keep up the good work.
I love Manhattan Special, I was turned on to it
when I was 12 years old. I love that you mke it
in diet now. 40 years later I still buy it, but
my supermaket does not carry it anymore. Am
still trying to find it. A special way I love
to serve it is in expresso cups after dinner.
My guests love it, especially in the summer!
I grew up in Greenwich Village and remember
drinking Manhattan Special. Now 62 yrs later I
moved to Sunny Florida and still enjoy my
Manhattan Special. I found it recently in
Joseph's in Boca and Western Beef also in Boca.
Also you can get in Doris's Italian Market.
I absolutely love your espresso coffee soda.
I'm from the Bronx, NY, but moved to Chicago
years ago. I'm only 21 and one of the first
things I can remember is going to Emilio's on
Morris Park to grab a slice and a Manhattan
Special. I just came back from a visit and
grabbed myself 5 of the 28 ounce bottles. This
was yesterday, and sadly they're all gone. I'm
also sad to see that the large (28 oz) bottles
aren't available online. Should I order a case
of the 10oz'ers or should I wait to see if you
make the 28s available? We'll see how long I
can hold out. In the mean time, don't stop
making your wonderful product. It's clear that
so many people have fond memories of it :]
I live in the middle of illinois, not italian, but
love good italian food. I was in my favorite
pizzaria, Gallina's, and saw a bottle of manhattan
special on the shelf. I asked the owner if it was
any good, and he said it's the best. I love
coffee but had never had a coffee soda. I tried
the large bottle, and have been hooked ever since.
The coffee flavor is perfect, as well as the cane
sugar. I love your coffee soda, please dont stop
making it.
I'm originally from Flatlands, Brooklyn (vat
else?) and live in DC. Diet (high-test, not
decaf) Manhattan Special is my all-time favorite
soda but can't find it anywhere in the DC area.
Every time I journey up to Bklyn, I'll go to Met
Food on 7th Ave and bring home a case. I like to
make a mocha "egg cream" with Manhattan Special
by adding chocolate milk. Tomorrow, I'm gonna
try chocolate milk and Vanilla Stoli. Now THAT'S
a MAN'S drink!
I'm originally from Brooklyn. I've moved
throughout the country, and my last adventure
connected me with my now present wife, Karen.
She is from Ohio. We came to Brooklyn to visit
my family recently, and I introduced Karen to
Manhattan Special.Needless to say, she is
HOOKED. I wish the shipping charges were a
little less.Regardless, we enjoy the beverage
daily. Thank you for this.
wow i went a a meeting with some co workers and @
this deli by our corp. office she introduced me to
your drink !!! this is the best coffee drink I
have ever had !!!!!!!!!!!!
your fan for life
patty caamano 🙂
We would love to see the old label come back 😉
I grew up on Manhattan Special, my father came
from Greenpoint, NY and that is where it
originated from. Little did I know that I was
going to marry a Passaro (no relation to the
company) and at our reception, we put bottles of
Manhattan Special on each table. At that time,
the label had Passaro's Famous on it. Great
memories!
I love your product.
Will it ever be available in England?
Hope So!
I too like Alexander remember getting a hot
roast beef and melted mozzarella with brown
gravy hero from Montes and a big bottle of
Manhattan Special. I used to sneak drinking it
when I was a kid when my father and godmother
would buy it and would let me drink a little bit
cause it was "coffee". Every time I drink it I
remember going to the corner deli by my
godmother and getting two or three bottles. I
since moved away from brooklyn and unfortunately
nobody outside of brooklyn knows what a
manhattan special is or how good it is. I long
for some everyday and hope to find out how to
order some online
ever since the old days in harlem the manhattan
special has held a special place in my heart,
and on my taste buds. i have'nt had it for a
while, because i have'nt been able to find it. i
am looking forward to my buddy of 60years, Nick
to be able to locate where i can buy it on his
computer. my eyes are glazed, and my tounge is
watering in anticipation.
Well like most people from new york, we usually
been to the deli a couple times because our
grandmothers or own mothers wanted us to get milk,
or butter, or bread, etc...One item every time i
been to the deli caught my attention and i been
addicted to them since i was 4yrs old...the good
old "manhattan special"...i havent been to a deli
in a long time after i joined the marine corps but
one thing that happened to me while i am still
here in afghanistan was my uncle tommy of bklyn,
ny had talked to a couple people and they sent me
not one bottle, or two bottles, but an entire case
and tshirt and hat....i am so very thankful and it
is my duty to keep the world a better place and i
will continue to drink this product till i go. I
want to thank the company, Semper Fi
When I was a kid my mom used to buy Manhattan
Special all the time and i was like YUCK whenever
i tried a sip. But now I understand why she bought
it all the time, and get one at least every other
day from the Deli next door to my job. Thanks for
making my days sweeter.
