I grew up on Skillman Ave. and Lorimer St., two blocks away from Manhattan Special. When I was a kid, I walked to school every day (St. Francis of Paola) and passed the building as the wonderful aroma of the espresso filled the entire neigh- borhood. Manhattan Special has been a staple for me my entire life, so imagine my horror when I moved out of the City! NO Manhattan Special!!! (I moved down South ... long story) I actually went through withdrawals! My sister would send me some Christmas "Care Packages", including 2 or 3 large bottles .... that would last one sitting. I was so desparate, I even tried making my own! (DON'T try it at home, friends, the most horrible thing I ever tasted). Right now I'm working in Richmond, Virginia, along with a bunch of other paisans from NY. A friend of mine here is kind enough bring me back as much as he can fit in his trunk, whenever he drives back to NY (He's now in my will). Even now, as I am typing this, I'm sitting at my desk, diving into a huge plate of home-made chicken cutlets parmigian, drinking an ice-cold Manhattan Special! AHhhhhhhh ..... life is GOOD! Truly the nectar of the Gods. Thank you SO much for your wonderful, WONDERFUL espresso soda. I cannot picture my life without it.George Jacope can also be reached at: gjacopec@hotmail.com

at AT&T CommunicationsI started drinking Manhattan Special when my Aunt owned a Italian Restaurant on Lorimer St. off Metropolitan Ave. around 1960. I've drank this GREAT beverage for years until I moved out to Northwestern New Jersey in 1987. I could never find it out here so when I come back to visit relatives I usually stock up. Now I really lucked out because my daughter is going with a guy from Brooklyn and whenever he comes over he brings me a supply to hold me over till his next visit. The only problem is hiding it from the rest of the family....Richard Greg Jr. can also be reached at: rgregjr@goes.com

I love your soda. I just wish you had better distribution all over NYC, it's a sort of dumb luck when I stumble upon a store selling your espresso soda. I also love your label. I'm not prone to turning my body into a billboard, but if you were to print t-shirts, I would very happily and proudly wear one, as I more than endorse your soda. Growing up on Jackson Street in the early 60's, I used to ride my bicycle past the Manhattan Special plant on Skillman Avenue. I used to watch the bottles being cleaned by machine. The aroma of the coffee was great. I used to buy a bottle for 12 cents at the candy store on Humboldt St. (between Jackson and Withers). I still pass by when I march in the Our Lady of Mount Carmel parade, each July 16. It's great that the plant is still there and still making Manhattan Special.Joe Salvato can also be reached at: jds315@bellatlantic.net

As a child, Manhattan Special was a treat that my brother & I had whenGrandpa(my father's father) took us out to lunch at a local lunch shop on lower1st Ave. in Manhattan, where "the boys" were always waiting for my grandfatherto join them playing Hearts in the back while we were well fed (& beveraged) upfront. My Mother would go nutty when we would get home! I always thought sheresented us having so much fun when Grandpa took us out to lunch; in part itwas that we were all buzzed-up on caffeine from the Manhattan Special (no decafin those days; not that we would have had it if it did exsist back then), butmore she was furious because the shop was a local bookie joint! It was notuntil recently that we all found out just how protective Grandpa & 'the boys'had been; neither my brother nor myself had known what was going on in the backuntil the past few years as we both turned 40. My Mother doesn't believe eitherof us... Manhattan Special was The Best then, & continues to be The Best!!! Ibring cases home with me to Boston as often as necessary. Often, I'll givebottles as gifts to fellow Italians who then wish they had been born in NewYork City. Keep up the good work!!! Grazie.

WOW! This last batch of Manhattan cost me over 650.00, of course that includes RT air from Seattle to Largo Florida. A Manhattan fan will do anything to enbibe. I after reading the guest book also would like to order online as "Coffee Town" Seattle hasn't caught on to Manhattan. Asking my elderly parents to send some is a hassle for them and I can only clean out the deli in Largo for a dozen or so, which incidently don't all make it home. We need to order online. I have been drinking the espresso coffee soda since I grew up in Brooklyn since I was a little kid. It still tastes great and I am happy that it has remained a family run business. It is a great Italian-American product. Also, the gassosa, which I have just recently tried is incredible. I hope that this product remains for a long time. Giovanni Guarino can also be reached at: -

Ever since we moved from Brooklyn to Connecticut in 1993 the one taste we missed the most was the coffee soda. We would buy a case of it every time we went back to the city. Now that we can buy it over the web I search is over.Bob Monaco can also be reached at: rmonaco@hvbank.com

I was so very happy to find your Manhattan Special Express Soda here in the Albany, NY area. I used to live down in Brooklyn where your beverage center is and have enjoyed drinking the Expresso soda since I was a young child. It was a special treat at my house when my parents would purchase a case of those little bottles. I moved up here a few years ago and was in an Italian specialty store and found my favorite!!!! I would love to know where I can purchase it by the case in this area. If anyone knows please e-mail me at Ermsfun@aol.com. ThanksErma Tierno can also be reached at: Ermsfun@aol.com

My earliest memory of Manhattan specialgoes back to the late 5o's, drinking it in an Italian Cafe with mother and father. Later on buying it in local candy stores. I missed it for a few years, but now I have located a few steady sources. My one problem, this guest book seems to have only Italian Names!!!!! Now do we tell the rest of the world or keep it to ourselves????/ Visit my website at www.NYFoodShow.com Joe MaurielloJoseph Mauriello can also be reached at: Joe@NYFoodShow.com
